Eskom takes City Power to court over debt

JOHANNESBURG – Eskom is taking Johannesburg power utility City Power to court for allegedly defaulting on its payments of nearly R1.1-billion.
Eskom says it has no choice but to resort to legal action to recover its money.

The dispute against city power comes amid  Eskom’s dire financial situation which has threatened its ability to meet the growing energy demands of the province.
The utility says City Power started defaulting on its payments in October 2023, and no payment has been received since.
The case is set down for 4 June.
